LUSIKISIKI — It’s a story that has sent shockwaves across the nation. Eighteen souls were tragically taken in a brutal mass shooting at Nyathi Village in the Ngobozana area of the Eastern Cape over the weekend. Now, the names of these victims have been shared with the public, reminding us of the lives lost and the families left behind.

The tragedy claimed the lives of fifteen women and three men, with the final victim succumbing to their injuries in the hospital on Sunday.     Two additional victims remain hospitalized, fighting for their lives. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, Eastern Cape police spokesperson Lt-Col Siphokazi Mawisa emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. “The motive for the shooting is still unclear and forms part of the investigation,” she stated.

    Ministerial Support and Solidarity

    In the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, along with his deputies Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo, and National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, will visit the grieving families on October 1.     Ministerial spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi shared the department's plans, saying, “After the visit, the ministry and the National Commissioner will address the community and provide information on the measures being taken to ensure their safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

    The visits to the families will begin at 10:00, followed by a community meeting at the Lusikisiki Police Station at 13:00. These actions demonstrate the government's dedication to supporting the affected families and fostering a sense of security within the community.

    In another deeply saddening incident, top police officials and senior government representatives visited the family of seven who were brutally murdered in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
