On Sunday, October 13, 2024, police arrested a 33-year-old man in Bethany village, Bergville, charging him with one of the most harrowing crimes the area has ever witnessed.
A Father's Nightmare: A Rampage of Death and Destruction
Details of the incident began to emerge as investigators pieced together the horrifying sequence of events. Reports suggest that the suspect, along with his uncle, returned to the family home late Saturday night after visiting a neighbor.

"As they walked in, the suspect suddenly became violent, grabbing a knife from the couch and launching an unprovoked attack," explained police spokesperson Colonel Richard Netshiunda.
"He first targeted his mother, who was sitting in the lounge. She managed to escape the house despite being stabbed multiple times. But the worst was yet to come. His uncle attempted to intervene but was fatally stabbed in the passage while trying to flee to a neighbor's house for help."
The suspect’s rampage did not stop there. He continued to attack, taking the lives of two young girls, aged two and six, as well as a woman with a disability and an older woman who had been visiting the family. It was a night of unimaginable horror for everyone involved.
Thankfully, not everyone fell victim to the suspect's violent spree. His mother and a four-year-old girl survived despite suffering severe stab wounds. Colonel Netshiunda noted that the suspect’s sister managed to flee the scene with her one-year-old child, saving their lives.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a troubling history. Multiple domestic violence cases had been filed against him in the past, though they were all dropped voluntarily," Netshiunda added.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Colonel Netshiunda told Briefly News that the case is still under review, and police are working tirelessly to uncover the truth.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Bergville Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, October 15, facing five counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. The community waits anxiously for justice to be served.
