There’s been a buzz in the football world about South African forward Kutlwano Letlhaku, who’s reportedly caught the attention of some of Europe's top clubs. But here’s the kicker—Mamelodi Sundowns, the club he plays for, doesn’t seem interested in letting him go anytime soon. This teenage talent has been making waves, and despite the interest from abroad, Sundowns is standing firm in their decision to keep him in Pretoria for now.
Letlhaku’s journey to the first team hasn’t been without its challenges. Since being promoted, the teenager has found it tough to secure consistent playing time. Things took a turn for the worse when Miguel Cardoso stepped into the managerial role. While he did get some chances under previous coach Manqoba Mngqithi, the Portuguese coach seems to favor more experienced players, leaving the young talent on the sidelines more often than not.

European Clubs Eyeing Kutlwano Letlhaku
Kutlwano Letlhaku’s agent, Matthew Moore, revealed in an exclusive interview with iDiskiTimes that his client has indeed caught the eye of several top European clubs, particularly from Denmark and Sweden. According to Moore, these clubs see great potential in the young winger and are eager to bring him aboard. However, Mamelodi Sundowns appears to be complicating matters by turning a deaf ear to these offers.

Moore expressed frustration with Sundowns’ reluctance to entertain discussions with interested clubs. He pointed out that since Letlhaku’s last league start in November, where he netted twice against Polokwane City, his opportunities have dwindled significantly under the new coaching regime. “Several top clubs from Denmark, Sweden, and other leagues have reached out to Sundowns regarding Kutlwano,” Moore stated, emphasizing the club's hesitation to engage.
“However, so far, Sundowns has been hesitant to engage with these clubs, even though Kutlwano’s last start in the league was back in November when he scored twice against Polokwane City. Since then, his playing time has been limited under the new coach.”
Moore went on to criticize Sundowns’ decision, noting it as a recurring issue for young players emerging from top clubs like Sundowns. The lack of consistent game time can hinder a player’s growth and development, potentially capping their potential. “This is a common challenge for young players who emerge from top, ambitious clubs like Sundowns,” he lamented. “There’s always a concern that these players may hit a ceiling due to the lack of consistent game time, which hinders their development.”
“We are eager to work alongside Sundowns to find a path forward for a player we believe is the brightest young talent in South African football today.”
“We would love to help Sundowns showcase that their young stars can make it overseas and thrive in international football.”
Interestingly, Letlhaku wasn’t part of the Sundowns squad that thrashed Orlando Pirates over the weekend at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Instead, he was representing the club's reserve team in the DStv Diski Challenge clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
Lorch Departs Mamelodi Sundowns for Wydad AC
Briefly News also reported a significant move involving another Sundowns player, Thembinkosi Lorch. The former Orlando Pirates forward has left the Brazilians to join Wydad Athletic Club on a six-month loan deal. This marks a reunion with his former coach, Rulani Mokwena, who previously worked with Lorch at both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Now, they’re teaming up for the third time, this time with Morocco’s most successful club, Wydad AC, where they aim to make a splash in the African football scene.
As the football landscape continues to evolve, it’s fascinating to see how clubs and players navigate the complex world of transfers and opportunities. For young talents like Kutlwano Letlhaku, the challenge lies in balancing loyalty to their current club with the allure of international opportunities. Meanwhile, moves like Lorch’s to Wydad AC remind us that football is a global game, and the right move at the right time can change the trajectory of a player’s career.
