The victims in that crash were Banele Sishi (18), Sphelele Ngcongo (27), Simphiwe Ngcongo (25), Sifundo Zikhali (18), Nkanyiso Zikhali (25), Mpumelelo Innocent Dladla (23), Velangenkosi Ncwane (19), and Siphile S Dladla (17). Each of these individuals left behind families and communities devastated by their sudden loss.

The truck driver involved in the earlier crash remains in intensive care, fighting for his life. The families of the victims are still grappling with the enormity of their loss, as they prepare to say goodbye to their loved ones.

MEC Vows to Support Families and Honor the Victims

To honor those who have lost their lives, he has announced plans for a wreath-laying ceremony at the crash site. This solemn event will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, between Bridges 17 and 19 on the N2. Following the ceremony, a memorial service will be held at the eMaRomeni Sports Field in Mandeni, giving the community a chance to come together and grieve collectively.

MEC Duma has also confirmed that he will personally visit the families of the eight victims from the earlier crash. He emphasized the importance of being there for the families during this difficult time, stating, “Working with a dedicated team from the Department, we will be with the families from the mortuary – to the residences, right to the cemeteries where the victims will be laid to rest.” This commitment to supporting the families underscores the government’s recognition of the profound impact these tragedies have on the community.
