WESTERN CAPE - Delft, just outside Cape Town, has once again been thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The community continues to grapple with a surge in violence, leaving many questioning what’s really happening in this troubled area.
Local law enforcement has initiated a full-scale manhunt following the brutal killings of two men and one woman on Tuesday, February 4. This chilling incident has sent shockwaves through the region.
The victims were gunned down and then set ablaze in what police believe was a vigilante-style attack in Gushindoda, Delft, during the early hours of Tuesday morning. It’s a grim reminder of the escalating violence gripping the area.

Horrific Details Emerge: Three Victims Shot and Burned Alive
Provincial Police Spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut provided details of the gruesome crime, explaining that the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is spearheading the investigation and the ongoing manhunt.
“The victims were shot and then set alight, which we strongly suspect was an act of vigilante justice,” Colonel Traut explained.
“The exact motive behind these murders remains unclear, and the suspects have yet to be apprehended,” he added, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Colonel Traut condemned the vigilante-style violence, insisting that those responsible will face justice in a court of law. He urged the community to come forward with any information that might help bring the perpetrators to justice.
This tragic event follows another murder in the area just a week prior. That victim became the 21st person to lose their life in Delft in 2025. It’s not just murders that have made headlines here; on January 20, 2025, a man was arrested for unleashing his pit bulls on law enforcement officers. Delft, it seems, is grappling with a wide range of violent crimes.
South Africans Express Outrage and Grief
Social media has erupted with reactions from people across the country, many expressing disbelief and sorrow over the senseless killings in Delft. The Cape Flats, where Delft is located, has long been known for its high crime rates. In a particularly alarming report from November 24, 2024, it was revealed that 79 children were murdered in the Cape Flats over a span of just three months.
@TlotlisoM_ questioned the cycle of violence, asking:
“Where is justice and mercy in situations like this? Should we respond to violence with more violence, or does the message of forgiveness and redemption offer a better path? How can we balance the need for justice with compassion for all involved?”
@eunicetsha41 sarcastically remarked:

“The safest city in the world.”
@JohanBooys54395 described the murders as:
“Sounds more like a bloody execution.”
Joseline Ellison offered a thought-provoking reflection:
“I’m feeling sorry for those who are taking the lives of others—not because they’ll be caught and jailed, but because of the punishment that awaits them according to God’s law.”
Dale Brice expressed growing concern:
“This is becoming a daily occurrence now. What is happening in Delft?”
Garin J Wolf highlighted the severity of the problem:
“Last month alone, there were 23 murders in Delft. It’s clear that Delft has become the murder capital of the country.”
Another Tragic Loss: Teenager Stabbed to Death
Briefly News reported the arrest of a man linked to the tragic murder of a pregnant teenager in Delft. The case has further shaken the community, as the victim, Jamie Lee Martins, was only 16 years old and eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
According to NPO Women for Change, Jamie Lee was stabbed by a man she knew following a heated argument on January 1, 2025. The tragedy underscores the alarming levels of violence affecting the young and vulnerable in Delft, raising urgent questions about how to address the root causes of such crimes.
