Sometimes, life throws us curveballs that leave us heartbroken and searching for answers. In a deeply tragic incident, a matric student lost his life while participating in a cricket match. Following the news, the Department of Education's MEC offered words of support and solidarity to the grieving family and school community.

A Heartbreaking Accident on the Cricket Field

Last Saturday, tragedy struck during what was supposed to be an exciting day of sport. Retshegofetse Sennelo, a Grade 12 student at Krugersdorp High School, was playing in a cricket match against Boksburg Christian Brothers' College. What began as a routine game turned into a nightmare when Retshegofetse collided with another player while attempting to field the ball. The impact was severe, and the other student sustained a concussion, though he received immediate care from his parents.

Unfortunately, Retshegofetse's condition quickly deteriorated. He lost consciousness and suffered a cardiac arrest as he was rushed to Netcare Sunward Park Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the internal bleeding could not be stopped, and the young man tragically passed away. This incident has shaken the entire community, leaving friends, teachers, and family members devastated by the loss of such a promising young life.
