DURBAN—In an era where words typed into a phone can carry heavy consequences, a 25-year-old man from Newlands is learning this lesson the hard way. Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested him after he made alarming threats on social media that suggested plans to attack key infrastructure in the province.
Identified only as a resident of Newlands, the individual has not yet been named due to ongoing legal proceedings. However, authorities confirm his arrest came after a series of alarming posts were flagged. The investigation began when police noticed extremist rhetoric and potential threats circulating online.

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly threatened to bomb a popular mall in Umhlanga. Beyond that, he reportedly targeted other areas, including public roads, in a string of alarming posts. Investigators also uncovered a pattern of extremist political views on his social media accounts.
