Carol Bouwer Clears the Air About Miss World SA Judges' Drama

South Africans were eagerly anticipating the appearance of eight high-profile judges on the Miss World SA panel. However, only five judges showed up at the event. Carol Bouwer, the Miss World SA license holder, had previously announced that eight distinguished judges, including Miss World Krystyna Pyszková, would play a key role in selecting Miss World SA. Now, Bouwer is stepping forward to explain the reasons behind the judges' absence.

In a prior Instagram post, Bouwer introduced the panel of judges, which included an impressive lineup. Rea Malatji, a pharmacist, singer, actress, and former beauty queen, was named the head judge. Dr. Norman Cahi, a pioneer in teeth bleaching in South Africa, and Ntsoaki Ledimo, a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, were also part of the panel. Additionally, Malaak Compton-Rock, a prominent member of the New York Women in Communications and the Cause Marketing Forum, and Ava Lizette Hall, the Head of Content and Brand for The Africa Channel in Los Angeles, were included in the group.

  • The judging panel was completed by Krystyna Pyszková, the reigning Miss World 2023, Michael Petr, an internationally recognized dance choreographer and trainer, and Taibo Bacar, a celebrated Mozambican designer. Despite their initial commitment, three of these judges were unable to attend the event.

In an exclusive interview with Briefly News, Bouwer confirmed that three judges couldn’t attend the Miss World South Africa event due to circumstances beyond the organizers' control. She elaborated:

“We had planned for eight judges to adjudicate Miss World SA, but unfortunately, three of them could not be physically present.”
“Krystyna, our reigning Miss World, couldn’t make the connection from South America via Prague, where she had a Foundation event, and then onto South Africa. It’s as simple as that.”
“Michael, who was supposed to come from Prague with Krystyna, was already in South Africa in August and had helped judge the first leg of the competition. His input was crucial in shaping the scoresheet leading up to pageant week.”
“Ava Hall, who has been volunteering to help elect Deputy President Kamala Harris in the U.S., was called to assist this past weekend. As a result, she had to cancel her trip. We have a long-term partnership with her TV station, TAC in LA, which will broadcast Miss World SA 2024, just like last year. Everything is on track, and we’re preparing for Miss World.”
