In another significant legal development, the Zwelitsha Regional Court handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a former senior police officer for the sexual abuse of a minor. Mzukisi Landu, a former captain at the Ndevana Police Station near Qonce, was found guilty of multiple offenses against his wife's 11-year-old niece.

The young girl's nightmare began in 2014 when she moved into the Landu household in Ilitha Township near Zwelitsha. Over the next four years, until 2018, she endured repeated abuse at the hands of the man who was supposed to protect her. Landu used threats of violence to silence her, ensuring that her suffering remained hidden for years.

This case underscores the importance of holding even those in positions of authority accountable for their actions. The court's decision reflects the growing commitment to justice for victims of sexual violence, regardless of the perpetrator's status or position.
