  • AmaZulu FC has officially unveiled a new pair of joint head coaches following the departure of Pablo Franco Martin earlier this week.
  • The Spanish coach was relieved of his duties after failing to secure a single win in the first three matches of the Betway Premiership.
  • The Durban-based soccer club has announced that a former Kaizer Chiefs manager will now share the reins with a prominent South African mentor.

AmaZulu FC has made a bold move by appointing not one, but two experienced coaches to guide the team forward. A former Kaizer Chiefs manager, Arthur Zwane, will work alongside another respected South African coach, Vusimuzi Vilakazi, as joint head coaches. This decision reflects the club's commitment to rebuilding and restoring its legacy.

The Durban-based club decided to part ways with Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin after a disappointing start to the Betway Premiership. The decision wasn’t an easy one, but the results didn’t lie—Martin’s tenure saw the team lose all three of their opening games this season.

The Spanish tactician simply couldn’t deliver the results AmaZulu needed. It was a tough call, but sometimes you’ve got to make tough decisions to set things right. And that’s exactly what the club did.

A Fresh Start for AmaZulu: Enter Arthur Zwane and Vusimuzi Vilakazi

According to reports from iDiskiTimes, AmaZulu FC has turned to two experienced South African coaches to lead the team forward. Arthur Zwane, a former Kaizer Chiefs manager, will partner with Vusimuzi Vilakazi, another well-known figure in South African soccer, as joint head coaches. This move signals a return to homegrown talent and expertise.

The club released an official statement on Tuesday evening confirming the appointments. In the statement, they explained their reasoning: “Usuthu has officially named Arthur ‘1011’ Zwane and Vusimuzi ‘Kanu’ Vilakazi as joint first-team head coaches. This dynamic duo will take the reins with immediate effect, bringing their combined experience and passion to the team.”

“Their combined experience as both coaches and former professional players will be crucial in developing our younger talents and guiding our seasoned players in the task ahead,” said AmaZulu President Sandile Zungu.

The club believes that with the right leadership, they can still turn their season around. Despite a rocky start, the Durban giants are determined to make a comeback in the Betway Premiership.

Who is Arthur Zwane? A Closer Look at the New Coach

Arthur Zwane’s journey in soccer began at a young age, inspired by a family deeply rooted in the sport. Growing up in Meadowlands, he quickly developed a love for the game and honed his skills under the influence of those around him. Born on September 20, 1973, Zwane has become a respected figure in South African soccer, both as a player and a coach.

Zwane’s coaching career includes some memorable moments, particularly during his tenure at Kaizer Chiefs. Under his guidance, the club achieved several significant victories. For instance, in the Betway Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs triumphed over Durban City Football Club with a decisive 3-0 win on August 9, 2022. However, they faced setbacks, such as a 1-3 loss against Stellenbosch FC on October 9, 2022.

The ups and downs continued, with a tough 0-2 defeat against Lamontville Golden Arrows on December 31, 2022. But Zwane’s resilience shone through when Kaizer Chiefs bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Royal AM FC on January 29, 2023. In the Nedbank Cup, they further demonstrated their strength by defeating Durban City Football Club again, this time with a 2-0 win on February 10, 2023.
