Once again, the self-proclaimed music mogul Nota Baloyi found himself at the center of controversy as he publicly asked for prayers while surrendering to police over rape allegations. This move didn’t go unnoticed by many, including one of South Africa’s most respected academics, Prof Mokgethi Phakeng.

The allegations stem from a complaint filed by actress Itumeleng Bokaba, who accused Baloyi of forcing himself on her during a visit in September. Their explosive WhatsApp conversations have since gone viral, shedding light on the alleged incident, including Bokaba's request for "Plan B" after Baloyi reportedly climaxed inside her. Despite the mounting evidence, Nota, whose real name is Nhlamulo Baloyi, has denied all accusations across various platforms, including a podcast and multiple posts on X.

Prof Phakeng Fires Back at Nota

The heated drama caught the eye of Prof Mokgethi Phakeng, who previously faced derogatory remarks from Baloyi on social media. In response to his plea for prayers, she delivered a sharp-tongued reply that left the internet buzzing. Nota had originally written:

  • "Handing myself in at Randburg police station and hoping for the best. Please keep me in your prayers. This is officially the worst day of my life so far!"

    Phakeng took the opportunity to remind him of his past behavior, posting an old tweet where he mocked her. She then added her own two cents, offering what some might call "constructive criticism" laced with wit:

    "Askies boy. O tlo ba sharp. A certain pastor said he came out more mature. I hope you come out knowing that kindness is free and that respect is important. No wickedness goes unpunished, and your choices shape your future. Take this time to reflect and grow. We will be there," she wrote.

    Back in November 2023, Baloyi had made a cringe-worthy comment about Phakeng, calling her an "old marhosha (prostitute)" doing the splits to force a fake thigh gap. Clearly, Prof Phakeng wasn’t letting him forget it anytime soon.

    Within hours of her post, Baloyi responded, seemingly trying to justify his earlier remarks while throwing shade at Phakeng:

    "Appealing for the decency of the elderly is not unkind. Even professors need to be nudged/shamed into behaving better. As for you quoting a pastor you don’t respect after school kids were turned into thugs and ordered to burn down his church, you explain that at your final resting place!"

    But Prof Phakeng wasn’t done yet. She fired back with a simple yet powerful message:

    "We will be there."

    Baloyi attempted to escalate the argument further:

    The Internet Can’t Stop Talking

    The back-and-forth between Prof Phakeng and Nota Baloyi quickly became the talk of the town, captivating audiences across Mzansi. Social media users were left both entertained and intrigued by the professor's apparent grudge against Baloyi. Let’s take a look at how people reacted:

    @African_Spring chimed in:

    "This is my kind of content."

    @Alejandroshots quipped:

    "Life is so fun. Asking prayers from people you insulted."

    @sgdlam4 expressed disbelief:

    "How do you reach a stage where you get cooked by a respected Prof?"

    Marawa vs. ChrisExcel: Another Keyboard Clash

    In other news, the drama extended beyond Baloyi and Phakeng. Briefly News reported on a separate but equally heated altercation involving sports commentator Robert Marawa and controversial influencer ChrisExcel. What began as a routine analysis of events quickly escalated into a full-blown keyboard battle, showcasing just how polarizing public figures can be in today’s digital age.

    The clash between Marawa and ChrisExcel highlighted the growing tension within South Africa’s entertainment and media spheres. As personalities continue to engage in online spats, they remind us that the lines between personal opinion and professional discourse are often blurred in the age of social media.
